26.10.13 1st MozRwanda meet up at kLab Report

Saturday 26th October 2013, Mozilla Rwanda Community had their 1st meet up at KLab in Kacyiru to start the journey of Mozilla in Rwanda.

Kigali, Rwanda

9 members availed themselves with their laptops at around 3.00PM ready for our MISSION that keeps the internet alive and accessible to all.

Discussions

The Agenda of the meet up was:
  •  Interests people can contribute their skills in
  • Plan/Preparation of the Community’s 1st Hack Jam
  • Look and feel of Mozilla Rwanda Community
  • The Launch of the Community
Having this in mind, we all started the day’s activities and everyone went through the Mozilla.org/contribute website to see how they can contribute their skills. After everyone had a picture of what they wanted to do, we showed videos about Mozilla so that they can have an understanding of what Mozilla and its communities are all about. I think this was necessary because it answered so many questions the new members had about Mozilla and why they need to be part of the community. We then planned our 1st Hack Jam which will be on 9th November 2013. Each member will go the website to see what projects we can hack and each will suggest their topic in the course of the week and we will vote what projects we will hack. One project we all agreed on was Localization which +Az will discuss with +Alex Wafula  and +Arky r  on how to start the project and what help we can get. Lastly, we talked about the look and feel of mozRwanda and the LAUNCH of the community in Rwanda. The members proposed ideas of what they feel it should look like them the Visual design team was assigned to come up with some designs and present them on our next meet up.

Watching Mozilla Videos

Many seemed interested on what we were discussing and who we were and they came to inquire what project we were working on. The General Manager of kLab Jovani NTABGOBA was kind enough to let us use the office space for our regular meet ups and the Launch after talking to him. The Chairman of ICT Chamber Mr. Patrick KABAGEMA also had a chat with us and asked what projects we were working on. We told him about Mozilla and the new community in Rwanda and our plan to launch it soon. He then asked us to invite him to the launch, bought us drinks and wished us luck in the future of MozRwanda.

By the end of the event, which was around 5.00PM, we all had an idea of what we wanted to contribute to the web, we had a date set and project for the Hack Jam, we had ideas of the look and feel of our community and we had a venue and date for the launch. The Visual design contributors will work on the look and feel and will present it in our next meeting and we all agreed to have Localization as our 1st project as a community.

The next meet up is on 9th November at 3.00pm.
